Bremen Airport, which serves almost 2 million passengers a year, has built a new baggage handling system in phases. Vanderlande Industries was awarded several contracts based on its competitive quotation and work performed previously on site.
In 1993 we installed 19 check-ins with belt conveyors leading to a flat make-up carousel (TRIPLANAR) where baggage is sorted manually and loaded onto carts or containers. Complying with international security regulations, 100% Hold Baggage Screening was implemented for departure baggage in 2003.
The next phase was a new departure hall in 1996 with 18 check-ins, each providing weighing, labelling and dispatching, delivered with stainless steel covers. A take-away belt conveyor brings bags to a flat sorting TRIPLANAR.
Exchange between the TRIPLANAR and an X-ray machine is done via a gravity roller line. Three flat TRIPLANAR were fitted for arrival baggage. In 1998 an additional flat TRIPLANAR carousel with 3D chain was added and in 2001 X-ray security screening has been integrated.
All projects were handed over on time to a satisfied customer.
