Zone picking system for fast movers

Centraal Boekhuis opts for reliable and proven sorting capacity of a cross belt sorter

Vanderlande Industries supplied a CROSSORTER cross belt sortation system to Centraal Boekhuis, the distributor of books and office supplies in the Netherlands and Flanders. The system forms the most important link in a new groupage sortation system for the Vervoerscentrale in Culemborg, the forwarding company of Centraal Boekhuis.

In addition to the fact that the CROSSORTER is proven technology that guarantees a high sortation capacity of boxes, Centraal Boekhuis has also selected this system from the point of view of Total Cost of Ownership (TOC). In other words: the maximum productivity, reliability and system availability for the minimum investment and operational costs.

The CROSSORTER with a total length of 380 metres has 5 infeeds. The number of outputs and capacities of the design is based on the expected peak flows around public holidays.

The Vervoerscentrale has been the forwarding company for Centraal Boekhuis for many years. By always using the latest technology and resources, the Vervoerscentrale has grown into one of the most modern storage and distribution centres in Europe. The Vervoerscentrale is responsible for the transport of almost the whole flow of goods between publishers, Centraal Boekhuis and booksellers. Ten thousand orders are processed every day. Every year this is 55 million books, coming from 600 publishers, destined for more than 1,800 Dutch and Flemish (office) book shops.

The CROSSORTER by Vanderlande Industries is a very flexible solution for the handling of mixed flows of small and large products in distribution and sortation centres. Because of the use of the latest technology, including linear motors, IR data communication and integrated software design, the CROSSORTER offers high reliability combined with low lifecycle costs. The CROSSORTER systems offer optimum sortation solutions in almost all sectors where there is a requirement for a high sortation capacity, for example in sectors such as food, fashion, media / games and Business-to-Consumer.

Vanderlande recently implemented a new zone picking system for the fast moving products in the product range. A two-aisle miniload AS/RS replenishes the zones.
