International Airport in Hyderabad, the most modern gateway to India
At the end of March 2008 the new Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Hyderabad, India, was put into operation. The new airport is the first modern airport to be opened in India. The new terminal was constructed at 20 km from the Hyderabad city centre. The airport is the second public-private partnership venture in the Indian airport infrastructure sector.
The airport has a capacity of 8 million passengers per year, and was constructed to allow easy expansion for future growth. The baggage handling system consists of two check-in islands each with 30 check-in counters (29 + 1 for OOG). All departing baggage will be security screened automatically.
Because of the required security and customs functionality and the included sorting equipment, the system has been equipped with the Vanderlande Industries Sort Allocation Computer (VIBES.SAC). Cleared baggage is delivered to a dedicated make-up carousel (flat TRIPLANAR). Arriving baggage is unloaded onto belt conveyors that transport the bags to one of four arrival carousels (tilted TRIPLANAR). A full service and maintenance contract with our on-site team ensures optimal availability of the total system.
Roy Sebastian, the airport’s Manager Baggage Handling Systems says: “Vanderlande Industries has proven to be the best possible partner for us. They completed the Baggage Handling System in time despite the difficult circumstances they encountered during the project.“
