Martijn E. Van der Lande about environmental awareness in Postal Technology

“Our control systems are programmed to optimise energy use based on actual load”.

As a total solution provider of integrated logistics solutions, Vanderlande looks at the environmental impact of the total system. Surprisingly the main power consumption is not within the sorter section, which most companies focus on, but in the conveyor belt as they use more than twice as much energy per metre as the sorting unit itself.

Martijn E. Van der Lande, general manager, Parcel and Postal, Vanderlande Industries, says: “This resulted in innovations like our new green conveyor belt, with a considerable energy reduction that increases with the conveyor belt load. With the green conveyor belt, energy reductions from 10 percent up to 40 percent are achievable. Our control systems are programmed to optimise energy use based on actual load, for example, by stopping a conveyor belt when it is not transporting any product. In addition customers are now able to use our Business Process Intelligence monitoring tool to analyse the energy consumption of their systems.”
