Oslo Gardermoen International Airport orders BAXORTER

Veghel - Vanderlande Industries, supplier of automated baggage handling systems, has been awarded the contract for the baggage handling system for the extension of the East Terminal at Oslo Gardermoen International Airport. The contract of over € 4 million will give the airport the capacity to handle the increasing number of passengers.

The system is based on a BAXORTER loop sorter of 80 metres length, with a capacity of 1,500 bags per hour. Bags are fed to the system via a check-in island with 14 check-in positions, 1 OOG and 1 non-conveyables check-in. After screening the baggage is led to the sorter via two infeeds and sorted to 13 destination chutes. Arriving baggage is led to a U-shaped tilted TRIPLANAR reclaim carousel. The system will be operational from May 2009, in time to cope with the expected summer peak.

Vanderlande was the preferred supplier for this system as the total solution offered gives the airport the highest flexibility in coping with the foreseen growth in the near future. The choice for a BAXORTER was based on the positive experiences at Eindhoven Airport where the first BAXORTER was installed. The combination of a competitive price and expertise in installing Baggage Handling Systems was also of great importance.
