Automation and centralisation generate cost savings for Estonian Post

Estonian Post invested in an automatic line sorter for parcels. The company minimises its cost level by maximising the use of new technologies and centralising the activities. The main activities are mail and shipment delivery. However, the current postal business also includes express, warehouse, freight, financial and other services.

The sorting system for Estonian Post consists of one POSISORTER equipped with three infeed lines, and a total of 30 outfeeds. Each infeed line has an automatic weighing scale, for in motion weighing of each parcel. This is used for invoicing purposes, together with the information from the centrally located volume scanner.

Barcode information is read by a centrally located camera-based scanner, making sure that Estonian Post is ready for the transition to two-dimensional barcodes. The system is controlled by the standard Vanderlande Industries Flow System Controller (FSC). This control system is connected via a Destination Server to the host system of the Estonian Post.

Customer benefits:
  • Small footprint
  • Easy, low-cost maintenance
  • Increased capacity and high availability
  • Weight and volume measurement for invoicing
  • Cost-effective operation
