Sortation process
The configuration of an optimal automated sortation centre is based on the following parameters:
- Arrival and departure patterns of vehicles and vehicle types
- Required peak and average volumes per hour, per day, per week
- Characteristics of the various products handled
- Reservations for buffer areas, i.e. for roll containers, pallets
- Building shape, office space and other requirements
Basically two types of systems can be distinguished:
Line sorter system characteristics are:
- modular approach with induction on independent merge conveyor
- medium- to high-capacity sortation
- small footprint
Loop sorter system characteristics are:
- direct induction on loop
- high-capacity sortation
- automatic recirculation
